But the game is…different

June 24, 2007

Why is it that video games based on actual movies are never correlated correctly with the movie ? I never understood. I mean, the movie company gives the developer enough information about the movie (and not to mention the license to create the game) yet game developers still fail to live up to the movie's expectations. When I play a game (after watching the movie), I want to relive what i saw. Unfortunately, that is never the case. I will give praise to the bright minds at work when they develop the final product, but it saddens me to realize that it could have been 10x better if they added this or that from the movie. Some basic examples:

Spiderman (1, 2, & 3) - although the movies were superb and flawless. The games felt more 'robotic' than free-flowing. After awhile, roaming the city seems more like an objective than a privelage…which is not good.

Xmen - again movie(s) were fantastic, but the games are just downright bad. You have limited ablity and the Xmen games are pretty much story-driven allowing no room for free-roam.

Fantastic Four - before the movie, there was one PS One Fantastic four title that could have competed against Xmen Legends. But once F4 movies arrived, the games once again turned for the worse.

Maybe time constraints play a big role but then again this is becomming a very common trait among the gaming industry. Maybe theres still hope, but we can only wait & see…

Initial Greeting

I am not a big fan of blog sites but I felt like I should give this one a try. One of the main reasons I chose this site is because it looks professional and I believe it will be a great starting point to showcase my talents.
